Following the amalgamation of Thorne RDC into Doncaster M B C he was made Deputy Director of Legal and Admin for the Doncaster area. In the early 80’s he was promoted to the position of Director of Social Services, working to a brief to modernise and improve the workings of this service, a role which he successfully carried out before retirement in 1987 In addition to these roles he was also for many years the Returning Officer for the European, National and Local elections for the region.. His outstanding service to local government and the local community was twice recognised by invitations to Buckingham Place by HM the Queen to attend functions intended to acknowledge those who had made significant contributions to public service.
